MEYO SWIM TEAM

2009 – 2010 SC SEASON

OUR AGE GROUP BREAK DOWN

6 & UNDER

This is our youngest age group.  Swimmers in this age group must be able to swim 1 length (25 yards) of the pool in any style. They are offered practice three times per week for 45 minutes and of those three times we would like to see them at least twice.  Swimmers in this level will work on all four competitive strokes, starts and turns where appropriate.  The emphasis in this group is learning and having fun in a competitive setting.  This group will be working in conjunction with the 7-8 age group.  As the season progresses and skill levels improve, they will be integrating parts of their work out with the 7-8s.

7- 8

The next group in our competitive cycle is our 7 – 8 year olds.  Swimmers in this group must be able to swim 1 length (25 yards) of the pool in any style.  They are offered practice four times per week, and of these times, we would like to see them three times per week.  Swimmers in the level will work on all four competitive strokes, as well as starts and turns.  The emphasis will be on learning and competing and having fun while they do the work.

9 – 12

(Level 1, Level 2, Level 3)

Swimmers in this group are from 9 – 12 years of age and must be able to swim 2 lengths (50 yards) of the pool in Freestyle (front crawl) and have the basics of Backstroke.  They are offered practice 5 days per week of which we expect that they come three times per week.  This group will be divided into three groups by ability, speed and work ethic.  Dryland for these groups will be integrated into the practices to give swimmers an understanding of how dryland compliments and augments their swimming.

The Level 1 – These are swimmers who will benefit from more intense work on basics technique work in strokes and turns.  Dryland for this group will be integrated into their work outs for maximum effect.  On Wednesdays we will have Classroom from 5:00 – 5:30.  We will meet after practice from 4:30 - 5:00 to go over videos of the athletics swimming or techniques they have been working on.  Ratio for the classroom work will be approximately 1:5.  This classroom work will

begin in October.

The Level 2 - Practices will include stroke and turn development, refinement training techniques, while working a higher intensity than our Level 1 swimmers. Swimmers in this group will also have time standards to meet.

The Level 3 – These are swimmers who have a good command of all 4 strokes and basic turns. The intensity level of training will be higher than the other two groups, without sacrificing technique.  Swimmers in this group will also have time standards to meet.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays the Level 2 & 3s will have an additional 15 minutes of dry or wet conditioning each week from 3:45-4:00.  On Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:00, we will be having Classroom.  We will be going over training or personal videos, goal setting –short / long term, and other concerns of swimmers and coaches.  Ratio for the classroom work will be approximately 1:5.  This classroom work will begin in October.

Swimmers in the 9-12 groups may move from group to group as they improve during the year.  This will be determined by a review of their work by all three coaches.  Parents and swimmers will be consulted as we know this may affect family time, car pooling and other activities.

SENIOR (13+ & HIGH SCHOOL)

This group meets five days per week, of those five days they are expected to be at practice a minimum of three days.  Swimmers at this level should have a good working knowledge of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breast stroke and a working knowledge of Butterfly.  Swimmers will be working in groups based on ability, time, and work ethic.  Swimmers in this group will be working toward competitions at all levels, from basic meets on up to National level competitions.  Dryland for this group will be conducted on a formal basis using our Lifestyle Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Dryland programs for each week will be based on what will be happening in the pool and what type of competition we will be having for that weekend.  To be able to use the Lifestyle center on days when there is not a coach with the group; swimmers must complete the basic weight room course if they are under the age of 16.  For more information contact your coach.

For our High School Boys, we will be focusing on stroke/turn technique as well as conditioning to get them ready for their high schools experience.

For our returning High School Girls, we will be mindful that they are coming off of taper while the rest of the team will be in the middle of hard work.  There workouts will be adjusted accordingly.

This group will be having time in small groups with coaches to work with coaches on filming and review of those films, goal setting – long and short term and stroke/turn refinement or problems.
